We want to celebrate the strides the club network has made toward collective and individual mental wellness. Thank you for all your hard work, we truly could not do any of this without you. Let’s show some appreciation for our young mental health activists in the comments below! #ourmindsmatter #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthaction #mentalhealthactionday
Earlier this week we talked about some disparities Earlier this week we talked about some disparities in regard to mental health. One of the best things we can do to learn and advocate for more equitable mental health care is to listen to people with lived experience. Lived experience in this case means someone with personal experience living with a mental health condition along with facing other systems of oppression and barriers. No one can tell it better than the people who live it every day. So let’s be sure to listen up. Want to hear more from folks with lived experience relating to suicide? Five out five people have mental health. We all ha Five out five people have mental health. We all have mental health, and we all deserve care and support. But that doesn’t mean we all receive it equally. People experience different barriers related to mental health based on a whole lot of factors, including: race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socio-economic states, education, location, culture, and all sorts of other things. While mental health doesn’t discriminate, the way we are treated in regard to our mental health absolutely involves discrimination. People who experience societal oppression will face more difficulties receiving adequate mental health care and may receive less understanding, for example. So what can we do about it? There’s no simple answer. But we can start by making an impact wherever we can by having conversations with loved ones to break down stigma, advocating for more resource awareness in our schools and communities, and staying aware of what policies might be impacting the mental health of others. Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other. Let’s get Back to Basics with our language! Lang Let’s get Back to Basics with our language! Language matters a lot, especially when it comes to mental health. Earlier this week we talked about mental health conditions–but what does that even mean? A mental health condition is something that can be diagnosed, and has a set list of symptoms that mental health professionals use when making a diagnosis. They are sometimes also referred to as mental health disorders and mental illnesses. A mental health concern, on the other hand, does not necessarily require a diagnosis. Anyone who is struggling with their mental health whether it’s related to a diagnosis, a situation in their life, or even something they can’t identify, is experiencing a mental health concern. What’s really important to remember about these two terms is this: No one’s mental health challenge is more or less valid than anyone else’s, regardless of if it’s a condition or a concern. Your diagnosis is valid. And at the same time, you don’t need a diagnosis to validate what you might be feeling. We all deserve and need to take care of our mental health. #ourmindsmatter #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthamerica

If we have a broken bone or the flu, it’s totall If we have a broken bone or the flu, it’s totally normal and expected that we get medical attention for it. So why is our mental health viewed so differently by society? Mental health conditions are incredibly common, with almost half of Americans meeting the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition in their lifetime. That’s almost 1 in 2 people! If you are the 1 in 2, you are not alone and you are not broken. You are a whole person, and your mental health condition is just one small piece. You are still YOU. Whether you are 1 in 2 or not, it’s up to all of us to break down the stigma, show our support, and make sure everyone can access the care they need. Not sure how to help? Start by just having a conversation about mental health with your circle. It matters. #ourmindsmatter #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthamerica
