Officer Roles

All student leaders are expected to act as ambassadors of the club by effectively communicating the purpose of Our minds matter. As student leaders, you should consistently and actively recruit new members from all grade levels and provide club administrative support when needed such as:

  • volunteering at club activity fairs and other related events
  • considering and identifying possible successors, i.e. next year’s leaders
  • being involved with and helping promote meetings/events from the club calendar

primary leadership roles & descriptions

  • Coordinate leadership team planning meetings 
  • Coordinate meeting calendar and select activities 
  • Delegate club tasks to other leaders for support
  • Meet with co-leaders and/or sponsor prior to the meeting to discuss what activities will be utilized

  • Oversee necessary materials and make sure that they are online and have been made accessible
  • Complete club forms, wellness checks, and other forms as needed  
  • Ensure members sign in to each meeting
    • club leaders should also submit their attendance

  • Oversee club fundraising activities
  • Talk to the school’s finance officer about opening a club account if the club will be raising money and using club funds to pay for materials

  • Recruit new members to the club to have representation from all grade levels
  • Create and share social media posts to advertise club meetings and/or activities
  • Communicate with other clubs
  • Utilize club roster as a contact list/listserv

  • Run social media accounts
  • Advertise meetings/events on social media
  • Take club and event photos for social media
  • Tag @our.minds.matter on Instagram 
  • Follow other OMM schools at bit.ly/ommsocialmedia and add your handles by emailing [email protected]

  • Set up meeting links on Zoom/Google Meet/etc. and make sure everyone can access them
  • Make sure meeting platforms are functional and resolve issues that come up
  • Help members navigate the technology
  • Monitor meetings for background noise and take steps to minimize it

  • Shadow President/Co-President; help co-lead meetings or events as needed 
  • Actively outreach to underclassmen  

  • Support the club by brainstorming club campaigns/ideas
  • Attend meetings
  • Participating in club 
  • Offer support to other club leaders 

  • You do not need to have all of the above positions to have a club. Get creative with your leadership team.
  • We strongly encourage you to have underclassmen as part of your leadership team to ensure a smooth transition in leadership succession.
  • Consider implementing a shared leadership model throughout the year to give each leader an opportunity to lead and to minimize stress. This works well when leaders have other clubs, sports, or work. 
  • Try to have a backup plan for when a meeting platform doesn’t function or has too many issues (e.g. having a backup meeting link on a different platform set up)
  • Get creative with your position names. You do not have to stick with the standard roles.
  • Assign leadership tasks based on personal strengths.
  • Most importantly, remember teamwork makes the dream work!
