This day is so needed because suicide continues to be a crisis amongst teens, with recent research showing that it is the second-leading cause of death for people ages 10-24. We know that it can be easy to get bogged down in this work when faced with statistics like this, so today we invite you to focus on action and joy with our initiative Because You Matter. As we wrap up the year, we reflect on teens’ accomplishments across the OMM Network.🥳 We are so grateful to all of our stakeholders for helping make this another successful year of mental health change! One initiative that stood out from this past school year was from Northwood Minds Matter (NMM) at Northwood High School in Silver Spring, MD. NMM leaders collaborated with Northwood’s Minority Scholars Program and participated in a school-wide gallery walk. The gallery walk allowed student club leaders to showcase Black Americans’ contributions to various fields. NMM highlighted Black mental health pioneers, uplifting the importance of inclusion and representation in mental health conversations.🫂Diverse representation in mental health spaces can break down stigma, encourage help-seeking behavior, and ultimately save lives.
