• Remind students that it’s good to think about how we want to grow, but it’s also important to focus on our strengths and not just the things we want to improve.
  • Ask students to think about one area they are working on right now (something “under construction”).
  • Then, ask them to think about a strength they already have that will help them reach that goal (a “foundation”).
  • Have students complete the sentence:
    “I am currently working on the area of _________, but the foundation I want to keep is _________.”

    • Example: “I am currently working on being more confident, but the foundation I want to keep is my kindness.”
  • Encourage students to share their statements with the group if they feel comfortable.
  • Talk about how positive statements and affirmations can help us stay motivated and support our mental health.
