On December 6th, 2024, OMM’s School-Based Program Manager (Morgan Meadows) and Director of Program Development (Rachel Greenberg) presented at the National Center for School Mental Health’s Annual Conference for Advancing School Mental Health in Orlando, Florida.
A packed room of over 100 school mental health professionals, district administrators, and nonprofit professionals from all over the nation attended OMM’s “The Kids are Not Alright, but They Can Be: How Peer-to-Peer Support Can Improve Teen Mental Health & Prevent Teen Suicide,” 60-minute presentation. The session focused on OMM’s school-based programs, our support and coaching, how our curriculum builds four key protective factors for teen mental health (self-care & healthy habits, social connectedness, prosocial skills, and help-seeking behavior), and an overview of recent impact data.
Witnessing the enthusiasm for Our Minds Matter programs was both reinvigorating and affirming, sparking immense hope for improving school culture around mental health. This work is about building connections with those who share our commitment to supporting teen mental health and equipping them with actionable resources to bring back to their communities.
The conference provided an incredible opportunity to learn from leading experts in youth mental health. OMM left the conference reenergized and equipped with new insights on suicide prevention, amplifying teen voices in mental health advocacy, the impact of state policy on school mental health, and strategies to further our impact in the DMV area by participating in Communities of Practice such as the DC Consortium.
Thank you to the National Center for School Mental Health for hosting this conference and bringing together dedicated individuals and organizations to advance mental health and save lives.
