The High Point Hippos Swim Team hosted its annual Swim-for-a-Cause fundraiser on July 6, 2023 to benefit Our Minds Matter. OMM works in many of the schools where Hippos attend, including Meridian, McLean, Marshall, and Madison, and many others.

This event provides swimmers with the opportunity to develop team spirit and camaraderie and work together as a team to give back to the community. Swimmers are encouraged to swim sixty-six laps (one mile) and may use flippers, kickboards, floats, and all the time they need.

To reach the goal of raising $2,500, the team asked all swimmers to obtain one or more sponsors to either make a flat donation or a pledge with the swimmer to donate per lap. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the swimmers and the donors’ generosity, the event raised over $7,000, far exceeding the initial fundraising goal. Luckily, Our Minds Matter’s Executive Director Lauren Anderson was able to attend the event to speak a little bit about the organization and witness the swimmers’ strength and perseverance in person!
