MTV Funds Our Minds Matter

MTV Will Fund Our Minds Matter for Mental Health Action Day

Our Minds Matter has been chosen by MTV Entertainment Studios to receive funding for the third annual Mental Health Action Day (MHAD), which will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023. OMM is one of 22 nonprofit organizations chosen by MTV to receive a MHAD grant; all funding will support local activations with the aim of shifting mental health culture from awareness to action. Our application was selected from over 225 proposal submissions, and so we feel especially fortunate and grateful to partner this year with MTV for Mental Health Action Day!

Our Minds Matter’s MHAD activation is an open opportunity for our network of supporters, partners, and the 140+ OMM clubs in our network – and thousands of students – to “Move with Music for Mental Health Action Day.” On May 18th, participating schools will pause the school day for a special announcement from their Our Minds Matter club. This announcement will include a positive affirmation, followed by a song from the Hidden Healers self-care playlist. All students will be encouraged to move while this song is playing, which might mean moving their bodies, or moving their hand across a page while drawing, or moving their mouths while smiling and connecting with friends during this special moment in the school day! When the song ends, students will receive a limited edition self-care card and be empowered to take action for themselves, loved ones, and their community’s mental health.

Do you want to join us in our mission to encourage and empower people to take action on mental health? Anyone can sign up to participate with Our Minds Matter by going to bit.ly/movewithmusic23! OMM clubs who are interested in participating are encouraged to sign up by April 24th to receive t-shirts for club leaders and sponsors to wear on Mental Health Action Day. Sign-up closes May 12th.

And to see all our activities on MHAD, follow us on Instagram! We’ll be posting from schools around the DC-area who participate in Move with Music for Mental Health Action Day. We’re so grateful to MTV for supporting our work toward the day when no teen dies by suicide – and for founding Mental Health Action Day, so that as many people as possible can prioritize and take action for mental health.
