Our Minds Matter kicked off 2023 by hosting a virtual Student Leader Social on Saturday, January 21 . We loved seeing students gather for this meet-up, where they connected and brainstormed with one another regarding self care, school-wide campaigns, and leading their clubs.
After a fun warm-up activity where students guessed the names of pop songs played with medieval instruments, student leaders joined a breakout room in their topic area of interest, including:
- Student Leader Self-Care (led by our Director of Impact, G Wei)
- Connection & Confidence in Member Recruitment (led by our Senior Program Coordinator, Catherine)
- Creating a Real Changemaking Campaign (Led by our Program Coordinator, Mo)
- Student Leader 101 (Led by our Program Director, Laura Beth and our Program Coordinator, Julia).
We also reflected on the Be There Certificate, a mental health literacy training that was created by Born This Way Foundation and Jack.org. Students were asked to complete the certificate prior to the social, and shared what resonated with them, including: how to be an active listener, how to take care of your own needs first, and being able to recognize when the next best step is to connect someone to additional support.
We celebrated all of the hard work that the OMM community has been putting in this year by raffling off funds that could be redeemed for things like custom club t-shirts, custom stickers, or a pizza party!
Student leaders shared affirmations for themselves at the end of the meeting – which are included in the graphics above and to the left.
