June 5, 2014 – Teen-to-Teen Mental Health Summit

Panel flier5Over 200 people – including 70 current high school students – attended the Teen-to-Teen Mental Health Summit held at the Alden Theatre in McLean, VA, co-sponsored by The Josh Anderson Foundation and The Safe Community Coalition. The summit provided a forum for students and parents to discuss mental health following the two suicides at Langley High School and the two suicides at Woodson High School.

Peggy Fox, reporter for WUSA 9, introduced the six panel members and facilitated the talk. Fox also covered the story on the evening news the night before the event. Watch the story here.

Six teens and young adults shared their stories of living and coping with mental health issues. Afterwards, teens took part in small group discussions outside the auditorium facilitated by mental health professionals while adults stayed in the theatre to hear from school officials and mental health professionals.
